I can see how easily we could be drawn into this in a very real and dangerous way.
That’s the greatest concern. My definition of a victory in this war is that the world doesn’t get blown up..

Quite likely, the Russian leadership thinks they can win despite all those massive shipments of weapons and aid from the EU and the U.S. Maybe they think that doing it this way would make their victory even more impressive. I think it may be so. But, if they’ll run into a serious possibility of losing - they’ll escalate.

From the Russians point of view a defeat in this war could be the end of Russia. They would be pressured and “weakened” further - economically and militarily. The great Brzezinski’s dream of breaking them up into a few smaller jurisdictions may become reality. So, it kind of really is existential.
