There was an attempt by a state to legislate that pi is equal to 3.00. The bar to be a state legislator is pretty low. As a result, some pretty nutty things often make their way into state law. I remember an attempt here to legislate cheerleader uniforms because a legislator's daughter was going to a religious high school and she was complaining about how restrictive the uniforms were at her school. So the obvious solution was to make sure everyone conforms to a stricter standard. Not to mention the various bathroom bills.
