This is a 2015 article. There were articles that larger fish than a few domestic billionaires are involved in Ukraine - foreigners. The assertion is that they’ve made large investments, buying up Ukraine's assets at very low, depressed prices - and were waiting for Ukraine to join the EU - which would help those assets go up in price, reaching “normal” European levels. The price of their investments would go up several times.

Those people, presumably, have extensive connections in governments, intelligence, media (which means influence on public opinion) - and so on. They function at a level where national policies are made. They must be losing tons of money in this war.

To the degree that the above is true - it looks like they may have overplayed their hand with this NATO business. After all, they’re in the business of making money - not watching it go up in smoke.
