One of them was even awarded a patent while working as a Pointy-Haired Boss. Happens all the time. Engineers that like to suck up to their boss will add their name to the filing as a courtesy. The present VP of Tech at Micron has well over 1000 patents and he likely was instrumental in creating a handful later in his career. Many of the patents he's associated with reference my first patent which has been referenced ~120 times in other patents.
