After thinking long and hard about this... well, maybe not that long and hard, but enough to considering writing this post (gg)...

I vote "Yes" to an ignore option, for the following reasons:
1. It does nothing "new", in that it just automates something many of us already do manually
2. It is private, i.e. who you ignore is between you and SI

Ummm, wait... On second thought, I vote "No" for the following reason:
1. I envision a never-ending barrage of posts along the lines of "I'm serious, I'm going to ignore you if you don't shut up", followed by "Go ahead, I did give a #$%^ what you do." And eventually, "Hey everybody, I just ignored so and so, isn't this great! I urge everybody to ignore so and so!"

OK OK, I've finally made up my mind:
Everyone should go out and get a cable modem (like I have), so that it takes a split second to go from post to post. This way skipping over a post you don't want to read is a painless procedure. (gg)

Actually the reason I wanted to post to you was to agree with
that sentiment. I was not in favor of filtering in the first
place, but I entered the discussion to hear other points of
view and maybe offer a suggestion or two.

Well, there's been quite a bit of constructive discussion,
but for me its usefulness is diminishing.

I would favor a reader, possibly optional, which would let
us be more selective as we scan through the messages on
a thread. A look ahead facility of some kind. I can
imagine all sorts, but I don't know their cost technically.

I think that's about as far as I'm willing to go on it.
