Taiwan isn't internationally recognized, doesn't have something like NATO next to it, and would have to be supplied across an ocean.

OTOH the PRC would have to cross 100 miles or more of ocean to get to Taiwan, which is a lot harder to do in force than just driving in the way Russia did in Ukraine. And there are a limited number of good beaches for a landing. And while security guarantees to Taiwan are ambiguous they are a lot stronger (from the US and Japan) than any guarantees Ukraine had (from anyone).
