We don't need to copy most of history. Scotland, Quebec, New Zealand, Canada, Brexit, independence were all voted without any need for wars.

Unfortunately, the Kievans and Americans wanted war over Crimea and Eastern Ukraine, so they got it, good and hard, with MAD still available unless they become sensible and reasonable.

The loot is gushing fast, sponsored by USA taxpayers, so it will likely continue to the last willing Ukrainian.

I don't see why Kievans were so hell bent on keeping Crimea and evicting Russia from Sevastopol, but that's what megalomaniacs do. I can see why Russia declined to give up hundreds of years of possession though there was a paper transfer to Ukraine by USSR long ago which was bundled into the chaotic breakup of USSR.

Cutting off the water supply to Crimea must have annoyed the Crimeans. The Kievan coup must have annoyed them too.

When laws and civilisation in Kiev were dumped, sponsored by USA, that cancelled any other agreements too. The choice to fight instead of vote was made by Kievans, Obama Nuland, Biden, Hunter, Raytheon, Pentagon and co.

Russia reasonably responded to the planned attack on Russia and Crimea, then Eastern Ukraine.
