The most likely reason for the run up and tremendous volume was the upgrade by Chuck Phillips at Morgan Stanley. He gave everyone who was waiting for an analyst's blessing a reason to buy. I know Chuck; he has been a supporter of the New York Oracle Users Group for years, and he has always brought solid information about Oracle back to the Group. If he believes that Oracle will hit the revenue numbers that Larry and Ray Lane have been putting out, I wouldn't just dismiss it.

Of course, seeing how all of the analysts jumped on the downgrade bandwagon (naturally, after the stock went south), perhaps we'll see some more upgrades leading the sheep back to Oracle.

Things are just not as bad for ORCL as the recent plunge in price would indicate. They miss one quarter in the last 28 (and because of reasons that do not indicate any major fundamental problems with their business) and they get ridiculously smashed. The price is just rebounding to where it should be. They are a sound company with excellent management and they will be back.
