Sly: I've been burned 100% of the time by Kostech picks.
UMSI, HVSF, Some stupid Asian calamity went from about 3 bucks to 30 cents BEFORE the Hong Kong flu. Now it's at 12 cents and dropping.
I wrote them a friendly terse letter (if that's possible) asking them about some of their picks. To their credit, They responded quickly, admitting that UMSI & HVSF were in trouble. They said that they were looking at both of the aforementioned situations and would pass on updated research information to their subscribers, soon. Incidentally, they did say that Harvard's doodoo was the result of terrible mismanagement, and that they liked the new management's chances.. if it wasn't too late. That was months ago. Now I'm pissed!
I don't even read their "bulletins" anymore. A "bulletin" suggests a sudden burst of news. Kostech's bulletins mean "slow death."
My brother keeps telling me that "you can't trust any professional in the biz." The brokers screw him every time and the Kostechs of the world are paid hucksters.
A quick funny story (I think it's funny).
A few months ago, Unlucky Broker Number 1 Million cold-called my brother during dinner ... He had a "can't-miss" stock for my brother, to which my brother replied. "GREAT! If it can't miss, I'll buy $50,000 worth. Just one thing. I need your personal and company guarantees." The broker said. "Well, I can't guarantee anything" and my brother said, "Then you're f..ing liar.. bye-bye, and don't ever call me again!"

Sly, You asked about Kostech. Here is part of the fine print from their website:

"No funds or compensation are accepted from the companies we locate and review to our paid subscribers. After being reviewed to our paid subscribers, companies are presented with the option to retain Kostech Corporation for the purpose of consulting, web site development, and/or republishing rights for further distribution of our research material. Approximately one in ten companies we locate pursues this option. It is our goal to locate young companies with strong growth potential, invest in them with a long term objective, and then assist them in any way possible to develop earnings producing entities while creating enhanced shareholder value."

I like the way they disclaim being paid up front, but then cop to collecting fees and compensation from the companies. They are also buying, then recommending you to buy (while they dump, perhaps?).

It's a dog eat dog world.
Good luck
Bruce
