A MAJOR CHANGE IN MY INVESTMENT STRATEGY

When Michael wrote " I must love paying taxes" I thought his comment was partly tongue in cheek. I did some tax calculations which show I must change my current Strategy which is to buy a few Y2K stocks on pullbacks and sell on the basis of intraday charts. If I were to liquidate my Porfolio I would owe over 100,000$ in taxes based on my todate 1998 actual and paper gains.I have decided that my purchase today of 1000 shares of ACLY will very likely be my last purchase of a Y2K stock .MY current portfolio is 52% IMRS,14% SYNT,12% TPRO,12% KEA,8% CHRZ,and 6% ACLY.I will take at least 40,000$ in gains after 3/1/98 on 1200 shares of CHRZ I bought nearly 18 months ago. I plan to move my focus from studying short term price movement in excruiating detail to analyzeing the strategic position of the Companies I now own. This arena is where I have a lot more expertise than I have in technical analysis or analysis of income statements or balance sheets. For this purpose I will be paying close attention to analyst conference calls.I will definitely be going to the IMRS annual meeting also.

Superimposed on this strategy of tax minimization is another strategy of capital preservation which I must balance against tax issues. To avoid paying short term capital gains I must hold my current portfolio until February 1999.I have serious reservations I can hold SYNT,KEA,and ACLY that long.I also believe it is possible that a Y2K induced overall market crash and recession may occur in less than 12 months from now. I plan to spend as much time beefing up my understanding of overall market forces as I will be studying individual stocks. I will keep this board informed on any insight but do not expect to post on individual stock boards.
I want to thank Michael for his comment about taxes.
