<OT> Addi, fwiw, I have some friends in the same boat as you are (trying to buy a house in Los Altos), and without exception they have all decided to look in the Pleasanton/Blackhawk/Fremont, etc. area instead (for those of you outside the BA, this is on the east side of the bay - the other side of the bay from the traditional "silicon valley".

The thing is, if you go over there you will see that there are a lot of startups there and more are coming just by virtue of the fact that there is no space left on the peninsula. In fact, I have one friend who has secured $10M in funding (meaning, he will be hiring) and he has decided to go to fremont because at least there he has a chance at getting some support staff that will work for less than $100K. He says he doubts the next Oracle or Sun will actually be located on the peninsula, his prediction is the valley will move east or south. I personally believe that, since an important part of bldg a company is getting and retaining people, not just the VPs and founders, but at all levels and they have to have somewhere to live!

Addi

Its not the house that's overvalued, its the dirt it sits on. Good luck, anyway.
