I've been putting off doing this but need to get it off my mind. The school shooting is tragedy at its worst and I don't mean to take anything away from that horror. But I'm still bothered by a news story immediately following the shooting at the TOPs Grocery Store, resulting in several deaths.

The article I read said the store employed a retired police officer as a security guard. This person was armed and on duty when the shooting got underway. The article goes on to say the guard "fired several rounds" at the shooter. The shooter, unscathed, returned fire and apparently killed the security guard.

This accounting has bothered me since reading it. I can't help but wonder how a "retired police officer", apparently healthy enough to be hired as the store security guard, could have gotten off "several rounds" in the direction of the murderous shooter.... and never even nick him. Instead, he paid with his life for his poor marksmanship.

I know something about law officer firearms training, as my father was an instructor for several years for our state patrol recruits. He held numerous pistol championships and competed nationally. Many years ago... if that should make a difference.

You raise a very excellent point!!!

I think there very well can be some direct connection...

That should be very seriously considered and discussed openly...
