<Before you marry a person, you should first make them…>

Before I married my wife, I saw what she looked like (and she saw what I looked like) after an 18-hour shift in the Burn Intensive Care Unit. The medical student’s job was to carefully debride charred skin off newly-admitted patients. While doing this, the surgeon in charge of us would stand behind the student, asking questions about the patient’s serum potassium levels.

Btw great thread, your lobotomy hardly shows. And since action's over I'll chime in with a wife story as well.

Got married a bit later in life, mid 30's couple decades ago. Parents wanted bigum catholic church wedding, so had to go through the Pre-Canna hoops. Much of the 'prep' is to gauge betrothed compatibility, a hold over from days folks got married real young so it asks a series of questions.

Anyway a young 'Father' is asking two of us together: How big of a one-time expense in a month do you feel your wife should tell you about before she were to spend shared money? At this point we are both youngish professionals, she an attorney (was an academic so quite frugal by nature). So not rich but two income comfortable, few expenses. I honestly said well if you do buy something that's over 10k maybe mention it. Father thought I must be kidding he usually hears like a few hundred bucks from young people I suspect. Fun reaction.
