NEWS FLASH

Globe says firm believes run-up due to unfounded rumour

Crystallex International Corporation KRYShares issued 282249291998-02-09 close $10.1Tuesday Feb 10 1998Also Placer Dome Inc (PDG) The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, February 10, edition that investors in Crystallex were probably unable to believe their good fortune yesterday when shares hit an intraday high of $11.60. The Globe's Market mover column reports that the peak price, however, did not hold. Yesterday's sharp price run-up caught the attention of the TSE market surveillance department, which halted trading in the stock for a time yesterday. The company subsequently issued a statement suggesting that recent stock activity may result from rumours concerning its operations and properties in Venezuela. It said it has no new information regarding the Las Cristinas gold concessions. Crystallex is disputing Placer Dome's ownership rights to the concessions. Last month, Placer, which holds the property jointly with a Venezuelan government agency, suspended construction of a mine on the site while it awaits a Venezuelan supreme court decision on the issue.
