She may want to schedule her workout and her metformin such that the drug is at the lowest point while she does her workout (and ideally while she is having her post workout snack/protein/meal).

To shorten the research here, metformin is an antioxidant. Antioxidants (including vitamin C), reduce the body stress that is the reason why you get stronger after workouts. So you want to have them after workouts, not before.
