Interesting.

FWIW on Charlie Rose, the CTO of MSFT was asked what kinds of things from the research lab. at MSFT would evoke a "wow" from users? (my wide paraphrase)

First words that came out of the CTO's mouth: "Programming related - things that make programmers more productive" (again my wide paraphrase).

---

Was surprised that next generation of VC++ does not appear to be totally RADical.

But took this as a blessing for BORL. BORL has I guess something of a year's lead over MSFT here, maybe less, maybe a bit more.

---

(MSFT seems to love this dichotomous way of doing things.

Figure BORL is one-upping MSFT in the programming world -

making things easier AND more powerful

not

the MSFT which appears to be easy OR powerful but not both.)

----

Heck but everyone should not get a big head here.

Absolutely NO POINT waking the sleeping giant...

BORL should just smile, nod and say you the best, you the best (to MSFT) while continuing to produce outstanding tools.

---

In anycase MSFT needs some kind of JAVA thing-a-ma-gig to target the enterprise arena.

As long as they are lukewarm towards JAVA (and CORBA) and as long as McNealy puts up the good fight, they will be preoccupied enough to give us good guys a chance to take advantage of the lack of focused commitment from the Great Satan.

---

I said this when BCB version 3.0 was about to go into beta release.

The new BCB is going to be fabulous.

I think BCB sold over a 100k copies in 6 months with the first release. So we should likely get a good revenue stream here over the next couple of quarters.

---

Can anyone say double digit stock prices...

Scott,

It was even worse. IMNSHO Microsoft bought these people to ONLY to slow BORL down.

I have never seen results from these people in any Microsoft product, whereas these people played very important (and visible) roles in Borland products. It just seems that these people have vanished from earth completely.
