Small mention about LSI in:

Simultaneously, high-density programmable products are traveling
rapidly down the process geometry curve, overtaking and
passing gate arrays. Although ASIC vendors are taking their
leading-edge cell-based products down to 0.25- and 0.18-æm
levels, they are leaving gate arrays at more conservative geometries
because the growth for ASICs is predicted to lie with
standard cells. Companies like LSI Logic place most of their
development emphasis there, rather than shrinking gate array
architectures. This competition of small-process-geometry programmable
devices versus conservative gate arrays is a factor
swinging the balance in the former's favor.
