I bet MPACT won't work in notebook applications. What chip is Margi using?...............

Margi Systems Ships First PC Card for Mobile DVD; DVD-to-Go Allows
for DVD on Any Zoomed Video Notebook, Provides High Quality TV
Output Capability

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1998--Margi Systems today announced the availability of
DVD-to-Go(tm), a PCMCIA type II card that integrates DVD decoding technology to bring broadcast quality DVD video
playback and synchronized Dolby(R) Digital Surround Sound(tm) to any Zoomed Video (ZV) notebook. DVD-to-Go also
has TV output capability, allowing users to play DVD on any TV. Designed for mobile professionals who use their notebooks
for multimedia presentations, sales field force automation, interactive marketing or training applications, DVD-to-Go turns any
ZV-compliant notebook into a mobile DVD player. By using the card, DVD video streams are played back with full motion
at 30 frames per second with full color and full screen, providing broadcast quality video and "better than CD" quality sound.
DVD-to-Go also decodes Dolby(R) Digital into a Dolby Surround compatible stereo output as well as DVD video to
provide a total "theater" experience from a notebook.

Unique Features

DVD-to-Go offers superior technical design that enables mobile professionals to take full advantage of DVD applications. In
addition to decoding DVD digital files, DVD-to-Go also decodes and plays back MPEG-2 video, Dolby Digital (AC-3)
audio and CSS encrypted media, which provides added flexibility and performance for those who use a wide variety of
multimedia applications. With video throughput of up to 20mb per second of sustained video streaming, DVD-to-Go ensures
smooth DVD playback. DVD-to-Go's low CPU utilization allows users to use multiple applications on the screen, such as a
spreadsheet along with DVD and multimedia. DVD-to-Go is also Hot Plug-and-Play(tm) capable, allowing users to insert
and remove the card without restarting the notebook or closing applications.

Availability, Pricing and Warranty

DVD-to-Go is available immediately through distributors and corporate resellers for an estimated street price of $349. Margi
leads the industry with the only three-year warranty on all of its PC cards.

Diamond & Slomo Chromo...

3D & DVD on the same card.
It seems awful easy to get the MPact DVD card to drop frames. Wonder how well it's going to handle doing both functions?
We'll have to wait and see how performance is I guess.

Good price point tho.

The Diamond win is for a new kit. From what I understand, Diamonds retail DVD kit volumes haven't been much to speak of. Most of the volume has been through their OEM's (NEC & Lackard Bell). If Chromatic can supply Diamond's OEM business it may provide them with a more stable channel, than what they've encountered thus far.

Dave

PS: Chro, How's your color key overlays working?

>>Why is the stock up on not so good news?
I don't know, maybe the street is not focusing on second or third tier deals.

For the same reason that it goes down on good news, I guess.
By now it seems clear that it has become close to common knowledge
that those moving the market get the news before the rest of us.
Foul, you say. That's life until someone can figure out a better
system.

There are probably those out there who fit into that camp, but
you won't catch them posting ruining their little game.

I hope today's action means good news ahead. Intel?

Cheers,
Joe
