comon, get a clue. There's a reason each of the
public search engine companies pays netscape 5 million
dollars per year to get on the rotating-selection that
the "Search Button" points to.

netscape gets 99% of its page hits because it is the
default home page for its browser, and most idiots dont
know how to change it. just try removing infoseek or
yahoo from the search page and see how many hits they
get.

read any internet advertising rag, the search button
is the HOLY GRAIL of success. if you are on it, you're
an IPO candidate. If you're not, you're nothing.

Couple quick points. First, even though I'm now short AOL along with YHOO, AOL will receive nearly $100 million in "other" revenue for the December quarter. This is from ads, merchandise, Amazon, etc. So don't entirely discount non-service revenue.

Second, MSN and a few others have indicated they don't expect to raise prices, along with Earthlink. I've seen some ISPs locally for about $10/month; although some are prepaid, and coverage area is limited.

Finally, anyone who has MCI long distance can pick up MCI Internet (I guess soon to be Yahoo Online) at $15/month. Hmmm. Another instance of co-branding.
