thank you for your response, i feel no worse having taken a position yesterday. coms is no nn. 3 reasons to take a long position:

1. aol increased rates, expect other isps to follow and use this money to buildup infrastructure.

2. modem standard. coms has the modem with the market and name share. this will help to spurn sales and unstuff the channel.

3. 3com is still a monster company, future products (ie gigabit ethernet) will help to fuel growth. and expect to see more alliances with voice companies as voice and data merge.

** OT OT **

"I'm not short this instant but I should be. A run to 33 was a good entry point but I was busy dinking around with AOL (short that now)."

I was hoping you would short AOL (for me -- I'm not set up on margin), but was going to (honestly) suggest you wait for 125 or 135. But my reasons for wanting others to short them may have more to do with my dislike of their interface. Now if the stock is climbing on a leak that they'll go all web, then I'd wish I had bought at 34 (well, that wouldn't be bad anyway, but I'd have sold by now I'm afraid).

I still believe we'll see 90 again, or lower. A-O-smelL.

OTOT -- AOL

<<... but I was busy dinking around with AOL (short that now).>>

Are you looking to short AOL, perhaps at 135? I'd have to think they still lack a position of strength regarding media/entertainment delivery given that they have (AFAIK) not even announced web-based access to their content. And if they are really banking on being a proprietary provider, I think their costs go way up. Because of this (and the current valuation), I think the stock is vulnerable to the first analyst to present a compelling story of their (at least perceived) weakness.

But if/when that will come, and how much the stock will appreciate before someone or something yanks their plug a little, is pretty hard to say.

I can't short, but I'd sure like to see you make some $ on the short side of AOL.
