It creates a "right to abortion" out of thin air and interprets the 4th amendment in a very dubious manner. Forget about all the arguments over when life begins. Pro-choicers believe that, up to a certain point in the pregnancy, that the mother should be able to decide whether her own unborn child is a "life" or a "fetus." If she says it's a life, it's a life. If she says it's a "fetus," then it should be treated like a cancerous tumor to be removed. Like it or not, Roe v. Wade has been around for almost 50 years. That's over half a lifetime. People took it for granted, even though the original logic behind the decision was faulty to begin with. People also don't like freedoms being taken away from them. Whether or not you think that freedom should have existed in the first place, the fact that it has been around for so long, only to be stripped away, pisses people off. The thing about moving the issue "back to the states" is purely academic. Already the pro-choice crowd is setting up ways to fly women to abortion-friendly states. In other words, unborn life isn't really being protected. Instead, all that is happening is that a major obstacle has been raised for women living in "red states" who want to seek abortions., I don't think there will ever be a law that completely bans or completely protects abortion on a federal level. The political barriers for either outcome are just too great. What do I think should happen? I think we should do what King Solomon did and "split the baby." Ban all abortion after the first trimester (except in cases where the mother's life is at stake). Though I believe abortion is murder, I don't think we're at a point in society where all abortion can be banned. Tenchusatsu
