Dirk; I have said in earlier posts that Apple might make profitable nich player. It is a large niche player now, at 3% in 3 niches(Graphics, Video, Audio) It is a failed niche player in education and the general public. It is losses in those two large arenas that hurt Apple the most. The niches are being eroded as we speak though and in the past Apple recruited from the general public and the educational arenas(with lions etc, you cannot call them niches). Apple cannot recruit muc from those arenas, and in fact they contribute to the erosion of the profitable niches as the Wintels expand into them. There is only one major graphic product still only Apple now, and he is a diehard Apple lover(I forget his name) so he will hang in there. If Jobs has decided to manage Apple as a niche, I do not think he will say anything. The share price will fall to the level of profit/yield as the future will evaporate in growth terms, and it will be a huge kick in the n*ts for the loyalty you and others have shown over the years. As Mackido says the Apple target markets will allow for a smaller Apple to exist, but only as long as it defends its share. there is a risk that the WIntels will absorb all his niches due to recruitment losses from the faithful as well as greater capabilities in the Wintel software market. This is a real risk. Even now all the APple niches are being eroded by cheaper/better products(as seen by those buyers) You and the faithful disagree, of course, and say Apple is better. As they say in evolution the survivor was better!! So a little Mackido rah rah should not allow you to let your guard down. In this market Jobs long periods of inaction cists share in the niches, and that is the only place Apple can fight on, in the niches. It has already lost the large arenas. Bill
