Scumbria,

Well unfortunately business today can't afford to take big risks.. share holders consistently demand larger and larger profits in-spite of things like market saturation, over supply, etc... Yes I think the big boys are missing the point.

Ofcourse all this would change if Intel were to enter the market, since everyone follows Intel (who, although they don't often invent much, know how to make whatever they steal profitable).
