The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, February 11, edition that
financier Ned Goodman, the biggest shareholder in Marleau Lemire, threw his
support behind the troubled company yesterday by buying more shares through
his family controlled Dundee Bancorp. The Globe's Karen Howlett writes that
Dundee says it has agreed to buy 198,500 shares at $4 each in a private
transaction with an unidentified seller, thus increasing Dundee's stake in
Marleau Lemire to 24.4 per cent from 19.8 per cent. Mr Goodman says he
likes the stock because it's "cheap." Marleau Lemire has conceded it is
linked to a scandal surrounding Ste-Genevieve Resources because it
facilitated transactions between several clients and subsidiary KWG
Resources. Former Marleau Lemire employees say the firm got entangled in
the mess because Mr Marleau took part in secret sweetheart deals
Ste-Genevieve arranged for a small group of investors who bought KWG
shares. Mr Goodman said the KWG situation played a role in Mr Marleau's
departure.
