Getting off of FF's isn't as EZ as you pretend it is. It took over 100 years to build out our FF energy/transportation infrastructure, so we aren't gonna replace everything in one year, or one term.

Germany wouldn't have to restart their coal power plants."
They shut down their nukes after Fukashima, without waiting to build replacements. That was a mistake.

"gas wouldn't be over $6/gallon here in "carbon-free" California, since demand for those oh-so-dirty fossil fuels would be declining."

We are a long way from being carbon-free. The target date for the FF-free grid is '45. We might ban new ICE's beginning in '35, but there will still be a lot still on the road. Last year, 12% of vehicle sales here were EVs.

"two countries with horrible records on human rights, to boost production."
Would you rather he beg Switzerland or Ireland, places with better records, but less oil?

"This is the part where you run back to your Lord and Savior, Jimmy Carter, and how his solar panels were going to end America's "addiction to oil"

Too bad we spent all that war money in Afghanistan and Iraq, instead of on panels and windmills here.
