I am talking about our species. Look at the evolution of our species with regards to civil rights.. Think about it, there is no longer any legal slavery or even racism anywhere in the world. And women around the world, and gays for that matter, have never had so much freedom and social acceptance. So civil rights have become recognized worldwide. I watch a lot of foreign films and one can see it everywhere, especially in countries like South Korea where the young directors have waged war on racism, sexism, homophobia and especially the patriarchal society. As well democracy is pervasive as are attempts to get it. This is all because the human species is smarter and understands civil rights and democracy. . Before a 120 years ago none of that was true EVER in all of human history! And women could not even vote and were horribly abused. < Koan is always talking about how much smarter we are. I don't see it. We have gotten better at some things - test taking for one. Teaching about diversity was good but actually incorporating it - IMO - not so good. They taught us some French in elementary. Spanish would have been better generally but we were next to Canada.
