I've referred to it as Punch and Judy or kabuki theater when my kids have done this in microcosm.

It really is inane. Issues -

List.
The.
Issues.

Where do you stand on each, Politician? Here's a list to just rattle off ... some might not make it to the top 10. Have a referendum to rank them:

  • Antidemocratic processes and their removal?
  • Importance of non-religious principles and public policy in a democratic secular government?
  • Child Care, prenatal care, geriatric care, cradle to grave minimum wage?
  • Support for those failing in school, society, financially, health, etc. ?
  • Disparity between the wealth of workers and those of senior management and its moral components?
  • Universal education and collegiate and trade school cost structures?
  • Personal rights excluding single hotbutton ones like gun control and abortion?
  • Legal parity between races, economic classes and immigrants?
  • Scaling of costs for healthcare, psychiatry, dental, etc. based upon the ability to pay?
  • Progressive tax structures?
  • Clean environments and how to pay for them?
  • Corporate criminals and their culpability?
  • Why corporations are "artificial persons" but have no duties that involve their death as real parsons do?
  • Migrating to new energy with lower environmental impacts yet high reliability?
  • Costing out infrastructure by who individually benefits the most?
  • Making producers own products from creation to end of life?

Yes, but one, the problem of pandering to the oligarchs is much greater in the Republican party which they totally control and two, the progressive wing of the Democratic party, if they ever get power will go after the oligarchs.

In fact the main thing that the moderate and progressive wing fight about it how much to take on the oligarchs, Wall street, and bankers.

Remember Obama did not indict even one banker although they caused the 2008 financial melt down with massive fraud e.g. calling junk bonds, CDO's triple AAA, so shutting down bank lending as they could not figured value..

So if your concern are the oligarchs, which is should be, the thing to do is back the progressive wing of the Democratic party led by people like senator Warren.

PS you need money and power to fight the Republican party and only the Democratic party has that.

<
the fascist Republican party .... we need to push them back

The parties are yet another distraction. The real problem is reigning in the oligarchs who fund and empower both parties. They, via their think tanks on the right and their special electors on the left, ensure that the focus of the public remains off of correcting income and asset imbalance that is at the root of the oligarch power. Tax reform should be the first nine items in the progressive top ten list, with ten reserved for 'Other'
