Agreed - the photons they CAPTURE for ELECTRICITY are converted to current (which too is eventually turned to the kind of heat trapped by CO2) - but even the best are only 30% efficient of the net flux with multi-photon capture - this is thermodynamics 3rd law - "you can't even break-even" - so of course they produce heat in this process AND they do so at a lower albedo than the dirt they cover - so yes they do act much like asphalt in that regard but they do produce lots of electricity.

We need to be truthful about all sorts of power sources - that is one negative. Now that heat they capture in non-useful photons can be selectively reflected OR captured to heat water to increase overall system efficiency. While tey don't continue to produce greenhouse gases AFTER their manufacture - they often use lots of carbon FOR their manufacture. Further, they work better when cool than hot due to thermal leakage electrons that short out the PN junction - producing... heat. So by cooling them and heating water, its all good.

So of course we need to design solar capture intelligently to get the best benefit. This is probably easier to do on large commercial rooftops than on Joe or Jane Bob's house.

Respectfully, cosmic

Between 2016-2020 this stopped being updated - this was done by the class of retirees that I know (I'm not a Labbie) ... was skipped by the Orange Menace's administration of course - looks like hard work and we know they avoided that when it was useful or wasn't criminal. But its back!! Rejected Energy is simply waste that creates warmth but no value stream. That is 2/3 of electricity (and indeed ALL energy) produced does nothing but make things warmer. That is simply shameful. Not cost effective (at this time) to stop.
