<Id like to go back to the issue raised by Joachim. I think there is a paradox involved.>

Don't see a paradox in the example he offered nor in a long list of other historical examples we could cite. Just the opposite. Being <militant> saved us from being ruled by Hitler.

Not going to get into a semantic back n' forth with you about whether anything is worth physically fighting for. You have the last word if that's important to you.

All the best to you & your family.

We *must* have judges, police officers and other functionaries who simply follow rules and do their job. Life in a civilized society would be impossible without such people. And yet, there is always the danger that they may get away with Infringing on the individual rights of citizens. This must not be allowed to happen.
Madison, Federalist 51

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.
