Not very likely. Why all the speculation about a buy out? IDTI has indicated that they are not interested in a buy-out. IBM has a history of taking strategic equity stakes in companies but has not been going after whole acquisitions in the semi area. Why should they? Intel does not need IDTI. They dominate their market with 85% of uP sales. AMD, and Cyrix/NSM are producing about 10% of the needs of the market and are losing money on what they sell. Intel is in the position of being able to make mistakes, even stupid ones, and still stay on top. Intel will crank out crippled PIIs and make a bundle because the market will absorb them. They will loose market share to competitors but will likely retain 70%-75% market share in the next couple of years.

If IDTI starts attracting a bunch of unfounded speculation about take-overs, I may start selling short!
