Robert M. Cohen & Co. Initiates Coverage of BMC Industries;
Analyst Sets Speculative Buy Rating and $28 Price Target

GREAT NECK, N.Y., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert M. Cohen & Company analyst Keith R. Bossey initiated
coverage of BMC Industries, Inc. (NYSE: BMC - news) with a speculative buy rating and set a 12-month price target
of $28 per share.

BMC, a producer of aperture masks for televisions and computer monitors, announced an earnings shortfall in Q4
1997 sparking a one-day 40% decrease in market capitalization, according to Bossey. ''This creates a clear
undervaluation when weighed against a prior period of 26 quarters of growth in operating profits and resumption of at
least 20% growth later this year,'' he noted.

Bossey added that this is a classic overreaction to a miscommunicated earnings report. ''Although we expect the next
two quarters to be down on a year-over-year basis, the second half of fiscal 1998 should see a resumption of the
company's growth,'' Bossey said.
