The problem, from my experience, isn't so much an individual moron. It's the massive number of "you're a moron" responses that they draw, followed by the massive number of "stop responding to the moron" messages, followed by...

Filtering just the moron only takes away a fraction of the noise. Filtering the moron plus any responses to the moron take out a little more, but have the potential of filtering good messages. (Most people leave new messages to the last person on the thread, which might be a moron's message.)

I'd love to see a solution, but I don't think it's going to be as simple as just ignoring morons.

Believe me Fonar is not the only thread that suffers from excessive "noise." Check out FTEL if you want to see some juvenile posts that thoroughly deserve to be ignored. The DCTC threads definitely go through some ugly periods too.
