"Apple should make you head of advertising."

It could have happened, I interviewed with Apple's current ad agency in 1994 (before the Apple started to really tumble). Instead, I took a job at AT&T's ad shop that led me to computer systems support.

Working in a corporate ad shop with tech support that was never around was a nightmare. Our bosses gave us tight deadlines, but the PCs never worked. Luckily, we had a couple aging Macintoshes around that pulled my bacon out of the fire. All that money spent on PCs that kep crashing and tech support too busy with other PCs to aid my deadlines.

I learned to be a techy and provide support for my department. Then the big PC boom happened in 1996 and I found myself in great demand! Time to leave the ad biz and make some good $$ supporting busted PCs. But I never forgot the Macs that saved my hide on more than one occasion.

Anyway, I wonder what kinds of ads I could have cranked out had I stayed along the path of New York advertising instead of the corporate path that led to my current destiny.

TBWA/Chiat is the first Virtual Agency. They revamped their office in 1994 with wireless technology. Employees sing in in the morning to get their local cell-phone (virtual agency cut secretarial costs by giving everyone a local cell phone that works in the building). Pick up your laptop (networked through infra-red portals in the ceiling, so you can beam you documents to the central server wherever you go). It was a really neat shop technologically.

Ah destiny. What do they have now? Snails? :)
