AFTER THE BELL - Applied Materials falls

NEW YORK, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Applied Materials Inc's stock fell one quarter in early after-hours trading Tuesday. The company said it sees lower than expected new
orders and less favorable operating results in 1998 as a result of the Asian economic crisis.

''All eyes are on AMAT,'' one dealer said, as the stock fell from its closing price of 36 to 35-3/4.

Applied Materials reported first quarter earnings per diluted share of $0.60 compared with $0.08 a year earlier, beating the First Call consensus earnings estimate of
$0.50 per share.
