It's hard to compare those days to now... but thank god we had FDR in those times... It can't be overstated FDR's stabilizing of the American economy and help to Britain against the Nazis, when it was not politically popular, and how the world could have turned differently if the U.S. had remained passive... And thank god Eleanor was there to kick his ass into gear on liberal/social issues. And she continued to carry on social works after he passed.
