Whoops! An obvious typo slipped through in this sentence of the prior post: "He [Russell] led the Celtics from the moment he stepped on the parquet hardwood court of Boston Garden in December of 1986 after leading our Olympic Team to Gold in the Barcelona Summer Olympics." That should be 1956. Bill got a late start with the Celtics following the Olympics but he led them to their 1st ever NBA championship for the 1956/1957 season. No Finals MVP back then but Tom Heinsohn who played in his rookie Celtics season won NBA League MVP that season. KC Jones who graduated with Bill at USF and played on the Olympic team with him did a year of military service and didnn't join the Celtics till the following season. - Eric L -
