Was wondering for many years why they do not use LASERs as a weapon. In my student years before 1970,, I already worked in research with neon-helium ( en.wikipedia.org ) and CO2 LASERs

yes they were low power but the CO2 was quite powerful 100 Watt easy burning your skin if not careful

Today LEDs are practical LASERs, you can get quite a narrow spectrum and narrow beam shape semi conductors LASERs and only use them for lightening instead
