Trump and Putin both knew Trump couldn't pull out of NATO before the election (because he would look like an obvious Kremlin stooge and that would cost Trump the election) but they both knew he would after the election. Confirmed by Trump who has bragged that he told NATO partners he wouldn't defend them. So Putin had to wait till the Biden adm. And the poor baby wasn't prepared to invade a Ukraine that resisted and was armed by friendly NATO nations.
