FWIW, I sold 20 percent of the shares of MMM stock I own last week when it reached the break even point as an investment. I’ve owned MMM for almost 6 years years, so breaking even makes it a serious under performer. MMM is now 2 percent of the total portfolio (down from 2.5 percent). Sometimes it helps to reduce exposure to certain stocks without eliminating the entire position during uncertain times, especially if the company has a wide moat. I will say that if it was an all or nothing decision I would be inclined to sell.

I actually started a new position in MMM a couple of weeks ago and it's actually in the green. I'm waiting for more information to get a little more clarity on the company separation before I decide whether to add more or not. I don't have any plans of selling at this time.

I suppose it depends on your reasons for buying MMM in the first place as to whether you should sell, trim or add more. It has been a dependable dividend paying company, something I focus a little more on, and if someone is looking for more capital growth, that would probably be found elsewhere.
