Your assuming the market leader platform has complied with standards. This is dangerous.

No, it's not dangerous. The way development works is as follows:

1. Learn the standards.
2. Develop your product, following the standards.
3. Test product out on platforms that it will be run on.
4. If it does not work, either find a work-around or
wait for a new version of the platform that fixes the
problem.

This is the way that software engineering is done, Reg. But I'm sure that you'll argue otherwise. Don't pretend that you know more about software development than an experienced software developer.
