yes lots privately held, farms etc.. but really huge swaths in cities like Toronto .. You see some homeowners there that back on to these right of ways with big veggie plots .. few... but some...

Dis I say gov teach ? or incentivize :) Gov seems to want us dependent mostly :)

Its a lot of work and tending and cuts into recreation time as most don't consider it recreation.

when I used black plastic film between rows.. my weeding was cut by 95% percent at least.. I see farms doing it.. not always black plastic .. I was worried about watering but turns out it prevent a lot of evaporation also... unintended benefit :) The plastic lasts at least 4 years .. not as useful. for say potatoes .. but pick'em fruits .. like tomatoes, melons (especially climbers)... it is great...

Yeah I always laugh when scouring the nurseries for deals .. folks think perennials are plant and forget LOL
