LATEST NEWS ON JOHN GALT Received this e-mail from John this morning. . . It is miraculous John Galt escaped with only those injuries in light of a completely demolished vehicle. Seventeen fractures all together sustained on that fateful Sunday night of Feb. 1st. Was discharged from the hospital on the following Friday after battling with doctors and nurses over his treatment. They do not respect the wishes of the individual. John was driving home alone after a delightful meal with two women and then we dined and heaven seemed everywhere as John contentedly sped home. It was light traffic as he hopped onto another freeway traveling at about 75mph. A very slow moving vehicle forward and to his left suddenly steered in front of the passing Galt vehicle. John had just noticed the pavement had gone from dry to wet but required to slam on his break and swerve right. His vehicle made a sudden and complete 180 degree pivot at which point John Galt knew he was out of control. He went from heaven to hell in a fraction of a second. A sudden calm overcame John (perhaps a natural release of relaxant chemicals when a biological form is traumatized) and he accepted the fact it would be fate that would decide the day. Interesting experience, Terrence. John had no sight as to where the vehicle was and were it was going. John just waited for the impending crash. Time did slow and John could see the windshield cracking slowly in front of him. There was no feeling and no suddeness of collision as he had expected. Then suddenly it all stopped and the first thing that came to his mind was that fate had chosen that John Galt live. He reached for the passenger door, opened it and fell out of the vehicle, crawling then on a patch of grass away from the wreckage. Calamity ensued quickly with concerned commuters cackling over him, ambulance and police sirens screaming and the flashing red lights.... John picked his upper body up and stated in a subdued but commanding voice, "Folks, I do believe you're all overreacting.". At that point he tried to stand up and then wailed in his failure and only fragments can he remember of the ride to the hospital recalling on occassion of being poked with IVs, suffocated with an oxygen mask, and devoured by restraints and a neck brace. Terrence, I have seen the vehicle and it is certain that John Galt would not have survived the crash if he had been wearing a seatbelt. A utility pole had smashed right into the drivers side door, cracking the vehicle in nearly two pieces and splintering the driver's seat. The vehicle had then smashed up against the freeway wall demolishing the rest of it. John requires no assistance, good Father, as his struggles are his own. He does, however, truly appreciate your offer. But John is a trooper in the night, a warrior and saint, driven madly by the energy of life and, yes, on occassion, fate does intercede in its' attempts to stop him. But John Galt will not be stopped...not by anyone, not by fate. His injuries, fortunaetely, did not require surgery...but it was close. No displacement of bones and John is currently hobbling on crutches but will soon be acrobating with them and showing off those additional two legs. And John can tell you about pain, Terrence. A fractured hip brings with it indescribable pain. It is now his considered opinion that pain is the pure absence of pleasure. Know this. then. If one is feeling no pain, then it's all pleasure, good Father, and this should reflect itself as an impression of a chronic and breaking smile on one's almighty face.
