I finished all six TV movies under the Erzgebirgskrimi name and I sure hope they show up in a way that is available to you guys, as sometimes happens when German and French TV channels repackage existing content.

I had already mentioned that it is set in a fascinating location, a former uranium mining area in southeast Germany, but I will mention a few other interesting aspects.

First, Erzgebirg is located right up against the Czech border, and the series occasionally crosses that border. It also gives the locals a very distinct accent; I can normally understand much of a conversation in German but get almost nothing when the characters speak in local dialect. Indeed, the entire series has quite the international purview compared to its parochial setting; one of the main characters is Hungarian and now a Russian has shown up in the last episode.

And I wanted to mention the character of the forest ranger. She is almost a co-lead and manages to get involved in every case. She's not your standard female character on television, as she drives around in a jeep, uses a tracking dog, and often carries a rifle. But perhaps the most refreshing aspect is that she appears to wear no makeup -- yes, I know, this being television she is made up to look like she doesn't wear makeup -- and I found it very refreshing to see an attractive female character who is not 'packaged' in this way, something you don't see too often.

I will also mention that the series does a great job of avoiding another cliche. As she is about ten years younger than the lead detective, thereby fitting the mould of older man/younger woman that is the preferred model of romance, you might expect them to be thrust together, but there is almost no hint of romantic intrigue between them. Again, it is so refreshing to see what appears to be a strong male-female friendship without overtones.

The writing wasn't quite as good in the last two episodes, but IMO it's still worth your time if you come across it.
