I spent a year in community college at a time I was between jobs and felt that I needed to know more about the new phenomena of the internet. School looks better on a resume than unemployment.

My beef is with recruiters who talk unmotivated potential students into taking out loans for classes they are not particularly interested in. I'm thinking of schools like ITT technical institute. They would place students based on what classes needed filling and not anything to do with the potential interest of the student or possible job prospects.
