Doren,
You might want to take a course on strategic warfare. Look back at history, no insurgency has ever been ultimately defeated.
Yes, I realize that, which is why I believe PooTin will ultimately lose, whether we intervene or not.

Given that, why do we intervene in the first place, if PooTin's fate is already sealed? Why don't we do what India is doing, declare neutrality, and continue to buy RuZZian energy? As long as what happens in Ukraine stays in Ukraine, everything ought to be hunky-dory, right?

You partially answered that question here:
The other STRATEGIC factor is... like it or not semantically, the Ukrainians are killing fascists for us... they have become titular proxy agents, and dying doing it. The longer they do it, the weaker Putin gets, and the more right wing Russians begin to question the right wing doctrines Putin barfs out. And while that happens no Americans are shedding blood... except a few Lincoln Brigade Americans.
Yes, we are indeed fighting a proxy war, and we are using Ukrainians who are more than willing to be on the front lines against the Soviet Union 2.0. (Or more accurately, Soviet Union 1.9.)

Given that, we should be fully committed to total victory on the part of Ukrainians. That includes freeing up Crimea and taking back every inch of Ukrainian land that RuZZia currently occupies.

That also includes not giving Ukraine stupid-ass limitations on the arms they're getting. I still remember when Brandon was reluctant to approve a transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets several months ago. And even today, with all the news about HIMARS and other cool war toys that we're giving to Ukraine, we're still holding back the longer-ranged rockets because we fear Ukraine hitting targets in RuZZia itself.

Why? Because we're afraid of PooTin escalating the conflict.

Let's get over that fear. PooTin WILL escalate this conflict as soon as Ukraine gets the upper hand, which is all but inevitable. We need to accept that and hasten the inevitable, IF the goal is to ultimately wear down RuZZia and make them run with their tails between their legs.

Because the alternative is to drag this shit out.
