I taught high school and what I found is that most kids are not ready for sophisticated abstract thought.

They mostly have both feet planted in the concrete world, like the MAGA crowd-lol.

So I realized that wasn't for me i.e. I wanted to teach concepts like existentialism.

So my plan was to get a PHD so I could teach at a college.

I got the masters, but just as I was going to go on, my mom had a total nervous break down and became psychotic and i spent the rest of my life taking care of her.

Instead of teaching I finished my time with the Division of Public health and then sold real estate which I hated, but made a lot of money to take care of everyone, mom, kids, child support and college!

Best laid plans of mice and men.

PS: it is pretty much "impossible" to teach existentialism to someone who has not gone on to college.

And for me, understanding concepts as sophisticated as existentialism is pretty much where humans need to go if they are to survive the technological future, and high school only, will NOT provide enough information or mental exercise.

extending public education K though 12, for four more years.

I think that if students haven't' learned enough high school curriculum after 4 years then maybe high school isn't for them. Some help learning a trade or getting a job would be more useful.
