Humans have been smart and have created logical and sophisticated systems for probably a couple hundred thousand years.

The total population was tremendously lower, maybe as few as 3 to 10 thousand globally after a choke point 50,000 to 100,000 years ago, but I'd guess there's a lot of human history we know nothing about prior to 10,000 BC.

We spent part of the pandemic filling out our family tree. With most handwritten records now digitized, and many descendants working on the same histories, it really leverages your efforts. You can come back a year later and others have done a lot of work for you.

I like Ancestry the best. a lot of Europeans have used Geni because it was less costly.

DNA matches often become important when you're uncertain about common names.
