>> this is the most peaceful time in human history

So said people standing in an elevator with grenades, having pulled the pins. My data is hyperlinked.

We have had instances where nuclear war could have been unleashed save for the actions of a couple of Russians - and countless other unknown perhaps not quite as close or maybe closer.

Your statistics would have been up-ended in a 15 to 25 minute window in the past or even present. I don't give us credit for that. We had Reagan hot-miking a "joke" about nuking Russia. Had that coincided with any of the other operational failures or a previously unknown cosmic ray event, or a small asteroid entering the atmosphere in the wrong place, we'd be toast. Gamma rays come from large thunderstorms - we didn't know that except for looking for blasts. Before we learned there could have been an ugly surprise for those not in the "consents to launch" cohort.

You should know about the Vela event if you don't already and that the only nuclear rogue nation you can't boycott was involved with the practitioner of apartheid. Sleep well knowing about the peace given to you.
