Fed's balance sheet (bottom right corner) fell 23 billion week ending August 31, roughly in line with the 95 billion scheduled monthly to be subtracted each month starting September

The total was mostly due to the settlement of proceeds from MBS that were allowed to mature over the last several months.

Debt issuance may become a problem in coming months. Publicly-held treasuries grew by 315 billion dollars during August which includes new debt and the debt coming off the Fed's balance sheet.
