Ed:

Did you notice my comment I put in brackets after my link to the Scott Black article? If you read between the lines there you will notice I was being a bit "uncertain" about Black's comments.

In plain English: I thought he was laying it on way too thick on the "VLSI is not as good" rhetoric.

---

Anyway I recall the c.call from VLSI where they said the sweet spot was 0.5u.

Having said that I like VLSI!

---

To me it's not a matter of LSI or VLSI but both!

(I don't know why LU would be mentioned and not VLSI. But that's what I've noticed on several occassions. LSI does not mention VLSI, VLSI always mentions LSI.)

---

VLSI's evaluation has been shot to hell here. Why? Likely because of the non-execution premium that has plagued VLSI in the past. I bought in recently because it looks like that nonsense has died down.

---

As for a last comment on Scott Black:

He mentioned that LSI would revenues of 3 billion in 1999. (This was from another interview.) Right now LSI is doing 1.3 billion. So you can see this guy (though a great value manager) has been drinking a tad too much tequilla recently.

So I would not get too offended about he has to say. VLSI is a good company, an up-and-comer.

----

Yes VLSI will be recognized soon. I figured that the recent over-reaction was way too extreme. But I needed to wait to see if the market took the stock down any further. I bought a week ago at 20 and I think that's a good price. Close to the company's buy-back price and the last time I did this was Jan. 1997 at around 17. Took me on a nice 100% ride after that and over time I expect this recent purchase to do the same.

(And again to everyone else LSI is not on a down-swing!)

---

Do you know if VLSI is having a problem in length of design time with their high-density design wins? (LSI's average design win has 400k gates though they do over 1 m. gate designs as well.)
